Procrastination, Procrastination, Procrastination... by Jack Zufelt
I want to tell you a story.
There came to me a man who was brilliant. He had a PhD. and was very successful in his career.
However, he was just not able to understand why what he was dealing with was happening. His exact words to me were, "Jack, I am a smart man and I know better so why am I still not doing what I KNOW I need to do to?"
You see, a year earlier his doctor had diagnosed him to be borderline diabetic and he was told that he had to lose 60 pounds in order to get back in the safe range.
He was strongly warned that if he did not lose that weight he would probably have to begin dealing with all the horrible symptoms of being a diabetic which included insulin shots and constant pain at a minimum and amputation or even premature death at a maximum.
Boy was he motivated to lose 60 pounds.
And he did. In about 60 to 75 days.
After losing that weight his doctor gave him a good report and told him he was no longer borderline diabetic.
Then within the next six months or so he had gained back the 60 pounds!
Sound familiar?
That was where he was when he asked me that question.
Why am I not doing what I know I should and need to do?
My response to his question kind of shocked him.
I said, "Please give me the name and phone number of your doctor."
"Why?" he asked.
I said that I need to tell the doctor that you need to get another death threat from him!
The moral of that story is that shoulds, ought tos, have tos and need tos do not have the power to make us get up off our couches and take sustained action.
But there is always that ingredient there that does make us get up and go and take the necessary action required to get our Core Desires.
Without this ingredient the dreams and aspirations you have will end up being missed flights in the travel log of your life.
Many self-help gurus promise you a direct route out of the desert of despair, mediocrity and outright failure to an oasis of success and freedom. But far too often that oasis ends up being a disappointing mirage.
"Just Do It!" The Nike ad screams out. It shows athletes pushing themselves until they are doing quite difficult or even amazing things and are sweating like crazy. And they seem to be enjoying it. And they probably are.
But saying to yourself - Just do it! doesn't cut it. The idea of being able to "push yourself" with phrases, slogans or a list of goals written on a piece of paper is simply wrong.
What about procrastination?
In order to make things happen in our lives certain elements must be there. If those elements are not there you will often find that you are pushing yourself to get things done and that always brings about internal and natural resistance.
Procrastination and frustration happens because no one likes to be pushed and that includes you - pushing you.
If you need pushing that implies that you are not very anxious or excited to do "it" whatever it is. Duh!
People ask me all the time how they can overcome procrastination and they don't like my answer. I tell them that procrastination is a by product of not wanting to do something. Duh again.
The critical element that must be there is the one thing, the only thing that causes us to take action, sustained perpetual action with great focus until we achieve the desired end result.
If it isn't there you will be able to chalk up to experience another mirage - never getting to the oasis of success.
There is a vital ingredient, which is the true, root cause of all achievement in all areas of life including leadership.
This critical element for success is not based on a person's authority or language skills or on what countless experts and gurus have been teaching.
The experts and gurus all pretty much serve up the same old philosophies based on team building, time management, goal setting, self-help books, doing daily affirmations, PMA, listening to motivational speakers or breaking boards and walking on hot coals at retreats, etc., etc.
The April 2000 SKY Magazine featured an article titled "Ten Years - Seven Habits - Just How 'Highly Effective' have Stephen Covey's Habits Remained?"
In that article they say "Although most of us have probably absorbed the principles behind the habits as part of our basic education, we don't apply them to our lives. It's almost 'duh!'- says Covey. "What's common sense is not common practice."
Why isn't it common practice? The answer is quite simple. Most people do not know how to discern what they want with all their hearts... their Core Desires.
Core Desires are the missing ingredient in most people's efforts to achieve success. Without them clearly defined the drive from within will not be there strong enough for you to do, or become whatever it takes no matter how hard or risky or expensive it is.
If you have ever discovered one of your Core Desires, such as wanting a driver's license or a car when you were 16, then you know that what I am saying is true.
You have accomplished many things in your life that you did not write down or need to push yourself to make happen. You just went and did whatever it took to get "it".
That is the foundation of all success. It is the DNA of Success. And that is why I chose that phrase for the title of my #1 best selling book.
Knowing what you Core Desires are will unleash what I call The Conquering Force which will cause you to over come all obstacles in your path.

Why She Failed For 3 Years... by Jack Zufelt
I want to share a story with you. If any of it rings true for you I am sorry.
Charlene (name has been changed) came to me pleading for help with her M.L.M business.
Charlene was about 45 years old. She had been working it for over three years and still did not have enough income to quit her job - even after spending many, many hours per month trying to generate income.
Tears came to her eyes as she shared her story and heart wrenching failure to succeed after three hard years of trying.
Like millions of others she didn't have any other options except network marketing to change her financial situation and become free.
She wasn't willing to go back to school to try and get more education with the hope of getting a higher paying job. She didn't have the money or the knowledge to start a standard, bricks and mortar business so network marketing represented the only way out for her.
As she learned about building downlines and getting overrides on their purchases it all made so much sense. And the products were fabulous so how could she fail to be successful? With gusto and total commitment she signed up and went to work.
Week after week she did what she thought she was supposed to do. She went to all the meetings upline and corporate held. She even spent money she didn't have to attend the national convention where she got all charged up.
If anyone needed help with meetings she was there. And she was always the first one to the microphone to share her testimony about how the products had helped her.
She was an eager beaver - just what every upline person hopes they get. But the results, meaning the steadily growing income, did not happen and she was super discouraged.
For three long years Charlene never did crack the code, so to speak, and consequently she stayed in the hard working, always learning, but never earning mode.
I was touched deeply by her plight and was determined to help her break out of that ever so deep rut she had created.
That's right - she created that deep rut herself. That may seem like a harsh statement but never-the-less, it is the truth. It happened out of ignorance and misinformation and because of a basic misunderstanding of what it really takes to build an income producing downline organization she was totally frustrated.
She's not alone. I, too, am frustrated by the reality that many people choose to do network marketing, hoping that it will be the key to their financial independance yet so many just end up frustrated and not earning the money they expected... just like Charlene.
I spent some time with Charlene and shared with her some truths that she simply did not know about. This is what the end result was for her.
In Charlene's own words...
"After three years of working my guts out with the networking company was with I was totally stuck. I would occasionally get a check for $300 (once I even got a $1,000 check) but it was usually because of my own personal efforts - not my downline. I could sell products like crazy because I loved them so much but I couldn't get my downline to do it! I was running myself ragged.
After a phone conversation with Jack Zufelt I was able to turn everything around. He quickly showed me how to quit doing the time wasting things that would not produce the income from a downline -- and what would. I was an eager student so I did exactly what he told me to do and now my income fluctuates between $4,000 and $6,000 a month - and it only took me 10 months to get there!"
My main mentor said that "the truth will set you free." Charlene did not know some truths that were crucial for her success. This is proof that ignorance is NOT bliss. If fact, she had unwittingly been taught incorrect concepts or partial truths that held her back and caused her to stay in the "struggle" mode and not grow in size of downline or income.
Charlene then did what I teach all people throughout the world. She sought out a mentor. It just happened to be me. I was able to give her what she needed and she took it from there. And within she 10 months was able to quit her job and be free. Success was finally hers.
The truth does, indeed, set you free... IF you embrace it like Charlene did.
You must do what you are told by your mentor as long as it is legal, moral ethical. That is how you get what they have. Also you need to acquire the good attributes, attitudes and paradigms that the mentor has.

You must seek out qualified mentors and copy their attitudes, mimic their characteristics and acquire their paradigms. And do what they tell you to do as long as it is the truth.
Unfortunately many well meaning upline leaders unknowingly teach untruths such as, set you goals and tell people about the products and you will get wealthy. And do it with the same attitude and confidence they do it.

The True Reason For Success In Network Marketing by Jack Zufelt
Why do some people make a lot of money in network marketing and others don't?
No matter how hard they try they just don't seem to be able to make it happen. They have the same product, the same tools and training as those who generate large incomes but don't ever quite get there.
Is it that some are gifted while others just don't have what it takes? I say NO to that! Then why does this happen?
Millions of people have tried all the 'keys' to success like goal setting, reading self-help books, visualization, doing daily affirmations but never seem get the things they want.
Success has nothing to do with goal setting or any of the other so called keys to success.
I ask you these two questions:
1) 'Are you smart enough to learn what someone is willing to teach you?'
2) 'Does the information exist that you need to know to have, do or become whatever you want? The answer to both of these questions is always YES. So you do have the ability. That is a fact. Then what does it take to put those two things together?
Simple. I call it **Core Desires**
You've heard that it's not the how, but the why, that matters in network marketing. It's true but no one focuses on this subject to the degree it needs to be. People are told to find their 'why' with the assumption they know how to do this and they don't.
Earl Nightingale said it this way 'Today in America people can become whatever they want. Trouble is, most don't know what they want.' A core desire is that thing you want so badly that you will do anything, no matter how hard, scary or expensive it is. It is a 100 on the scale of 1 to 100.
There are obstacles between where you are right now and where you want to be. What gets you past all those obstacles and causes you to be highly successful? Simple.
Core Desires at 100.
If you have a desire at 60 you will get 60% of the way there. If the desire is at 80 you will get 80% of the way there. If the obstacle is an 81 and the desire is only 80 it will stop you permanently and no amount of affirming or goal setting will make it happen.
How do you find your Core Desires?
By asking yourself this question 'What do I want that I am not getting?'
Then ask 'If I had that, what would that give me that I am not getting?'
Keep asking that question until you get the Core Desire. You will know it when you get there because there is always a noticeable, sometimes visible, but always very strong emotional reaction to the Core Desire.

The Serendipity Factor by Jack Zufelt
Are you blessed by SERINDIPITY?
Incredible things happen independently of those you personally create. I call these serendipitous blessings.
When you're pushing hard on door A, someone or something opens door B. Often, when you look through door B, what's behind it is much better than what you were going after in the first place. However, you wouldn't have seen door B open if you hadn't been in the hall pushing on door A.
Get in the here and now and look for the other opened doors, or go open some doors on your own.
Centering yourself means gathering all your energy and focusing it on your physical center. When you are centered, you are also connected to a universal energy.
You use adversities as opportunities to learn, grow, and move forward in your life. If you respond to events in a centered way, you will remain positive and progressive, keeping your energy and perspective focused on your Core Desires. If you are not centered, you are easily knocked off balance in tough times, responding negatively to everything that happens and with a tendency to take adversity personally.

When you learn to tap into your Conquering Force at full power, achievement and success are a foregone conclusion. Tiger Woods's father, Earl Woods, said, "I never asked him to practice."
At the tender age of two, Tiger had memorized his father's work number and would call him to ask if he could practice with him that day. This love affair with golf was no weak flame. Tiger said that he was fascinated with golf because his father seemed to enjoy it so much. Tiger's amazing success came from his Core Desire to play golf.
In Aikido expert Tom Crum's book, The Magic of Conflict, we are taught that if someone tries to punch you, you don't try to block the punch but rather use the energy from the punch to your own advantage.
When you try to block a punch, you are using your power and strength to resist the other person. This sets up a win-lose confrontation.
In Aikido, your strategy is to step aside with an accepting and pivoting movement, using the attacker's energy to throw him, or to apply a neutralizing technique. The key, as Tom teaches it, is to learn how to be centered, with both mind and body relaxed and alert. In this state of heightened awareness and connectedness, you stop thinking about mechanics and start to go with the flow of energy.

Is Your Self Stopping Your Success? by Jack Zufelt
Success is an inside job. Even if your body and mind are ready, willing, and able to learn and do whatever is necessary to get the job done, a negative self- image may stop you.
Although we create many outward images of ourselves- so we can interact with or impress others and sell our ideas or services-we only have one self-image. The way we view ourselves determines the level of success we attain in anything.
To achieve more success, some parts of our sense of self will have to change. Your inward impression of yourself controls much of what you create in your life.
When someone says, "Good morning, how are you?" you probably answer, "Fine," regardless of any troubles you may be having. The image you project is often very different from your true sense of self.
Because your level of success and happiness is controlled by your interior self-image, you must try to ensure that your exterior image and your interior image are in sync. If you can't match your self-worth with your exterior image, your ability to achieve at the highest levels will be restricted.
If the image you have of yourself consists of only undistinguished and unexceptional qualities-or all the things you are not-then your self-image is discrediting your positive attributes. You can be-and in fact are-both at the same time. For example, if you get a pimple on your nose, isn't that all you see when you look in the mirror? Even though the rest of your face is just fine, you worry about the one blemish. But your pimple does not negate the wonderfulness of all your other features.
You can choose to put the not-so-positive side into proper perspective by no longer making it your focus. Once you have the right perspective, you are free to see all the good things about yourself. You can see that you have a profusion of strengths and abilities. When people operate from the not-so-positive side, they give themselves negative labels, saying, "I don't really have what it takes," or "I'm not cut out for this." Often these labels are not true, but if they are your truth, a negative self-image results and affects your confidence, performance, and happiness.
As a child, my weakness was my cowardice. That weakness prompted me to excel at karate. My lack of self-esteem as a young boy living on the Navajo reservation was one reason I decided to become a professional speaker and help others-so I could feel better about myself. My weaknesses have made me stronger.
If you are prone to take charge of a job and do it well, you are most likely driven by a weakness. This weakness could be a feeling of inferiority that makes you go out of your way to do well. Your feelings of inadequacy may cause you to be a top performer. In order to control the outcome, you have to take charge. Perhaps you have a need to be noticed, praised, or acknowledged that causes you to excel.
I know many people who appear to be very strong-they look and act like confident, make-it-happen, take- charge people. They get the job done, reach out to others, and are there to help whenever they can. Many are known for their caring hearts. But if they stop helping others, they feel empty and much of their joy goes away.
On the surface, they seem fine, but inside they just aren't happy. For these people, helping others is like getting an emotional fix. They must help others to feel okay inside.
You must drill down to the core of your heart to find the real truth about YOU as a PERSON. The real truth is always much better than your truth about you.
Generally, the way others see you is much better than the way you see yourself. Change your self-paradigm and accept the truth about yourself - that is how you will begin to grow and achieve differently.
As your belief in yourself increases, so does your ability to accomplish anything your heart desires!

Do You Know What To Say? by Jack Zufelt
Do you know what to say to cause people to join the business? To sign up or to become a distributor underneath you? What do you say to them?
Just yesterday I was having a "teachable moment" with a new distributor and this was the crux of our conversation. Me helping him understand what needs to be said to get someone to join.
I can't tell by looking at a person what they want. But, I know for a fact that everybody wants and needs more income, more money, because that will get them out of debt. Maybe it is o`nly $500.00 a m`onth they want, maybe they just need $3,000.00 a month so they can go home and be with the kids and the wife doesn't have to work.
I don't know what their specific motive is, but it still boils down to this: I know they want money and they will sign up based on the belief that you and the company (and maybe the credibility of your upline) can help them get where they already want to go. That is what you say to people.
This is you speaking to them... "I can help you make that kind of f`inancial freedom happen in your life if you do what the company tells us to do or what I tell you to do."
You can say both... "If you do what I tell you to do and what the company tells you to do, using their incredible concepts and products and brochures and videos and DVDs," or whatever they have, whatever tools they have, "you can make a lot of money in this business and I will show you how."
Clearly communicate... "My job is to shorten your learning curve." So what do you say to cause them to join underneath you? "I," heavy on the word "I", "can help you get what you want out of life."

Let's assume that you are fortunate enough to be able to talk with them a little bit, maybe you already know this, but let's assume that you either don't know it or you find out about it in a short conversation or you knew about it already because you have known them for years as a friend or whatever. You know there is something they want. You say to them, "Bill, I found out how you can make enough money to play golf four days out of the week."
I know a woman who was asked, "What time should I call you tomorrow?" This is a woman in network marketing and she says, "Well, don't call me before 11:00 a.m. because I don't start work until 11:00 a.m."
This guy who was calling her was a multimillionaire running several businesses and he said, "You start at 11:00 a.m.?" She says, "Yes, and I stop at 3:00 p.m." He says, "You make that much money and you start at 11:00 a.m. and quit at 3:00 p.m.? I want that." This is a guy that was already wealthy, but he did not have the f`inancial freedom that this woman had in network marketing.
He had a lot of money but he also had a lot of overhead and a lot of employees and a lot of risk and a lot of "he had to be there" 10, 12, 15 hours a day sometimes. He was not free. He wanted her kind of f`reedom. He said, "Show me how to have a job like yours." She said, "Well, first of all, it is not a job, I work for myself like you."
Then he says, "Well, I want that kind of f`reedom" and she says, "Well, I will show you how to get it." He says, "How do I sign up, what do you want me to do?"
I am telling you to be seeing yourself like that as confident so that those people will want you to be their teacher, their trainer, their mentor, and help them get where they already want to go.
So, what do you say to cause them to join up under you? Simply this: "I can help you make 'X' dollars so you can become f`inancially free." or "I can help you learn to be home with the kids." or whatever you know about them or think would apply to them. "I can help you get out of your dead-end job, quit worrying about whether you have a job next month at all."

That is what you say. I have never, ever had to go into great detail about the comp plan or in great detail about the nutritional benefits. I am talking about how it was made or at what temperature the water was boiled before they put the ingredients in, I never had to get into that kind of detail. I just talked to them about how they can make big money under my tutelage, under my guidance.
You are that to them. You are their guidance system, you are their coach, their upline. You are their leader, their mentor. Why would they join under you because you know that if they do what you tell them to do, they will make their money. If they do not do what you tell them to do, they will not.
They will have faith and confidence in three things: you, first; second is the company; and third is the product. Now the company and the product can change places as second and third in priority, but in every case you are the most important part of that formula. Why will people join up under you? They will because they believe you and they know what you are doing.
That does not mean you have to have a big check either. Let me make that clear. If you had to have a big check to sign people up under you so that they would believe that you really could do it, nobody would get anybody because everybody starts at zero.
If I signed up under you today and your respective company, I would be at point zero and you would expect me to go out and tell people how they can make a lot of money. If I don't have any kind of a check, then theoretically a lot of people can say I am not worth listening to and they should not listen to me until I have a check.
I am saying that's backwards. You've got to have the belief that they should listen to you or you will not get the check. That's how you get the check.
What do you say to cause them to join under you? You tell them bluntly and confidently that you can help them m`ake $100.00 a minute or $100.00 a day or $100.00 an hour if they will just do what you tell them to do... sign here.

Achieving Fiscal Fitness by Jack Zufelt
According to U. S. News & World Report, today's typical middle-class family actually has less money to spend now than it did more than a decade ago. Most people suffer from some conditions that hurt their capacity to accumulate wealth.
About 95 percent of retired people are financially dependent; most are dependent on family, friends, or charity and find they must continue working whether they like it or not.

Far too many people live from day to day, from paycheck to paycheck. They are just surviving, without the joy that can come from adequate prosperity. Most adults consider money problems their biggest cause of stress. The constant worry about money is debilitating. Worrying provides no known benefit and cannot change what will happen tomorrow-but it can weaken your faith, cripple your actions, destroy your peace of mind, and make you feel powerless.
Money issues are a major reason for the breakup of marriages. Money problems affect us all at one time or another, and many of us all the time. Since money problems can ruin our health, cause distress in our personal relationships and our careers, and destroy our happiness and our lifestyles, financial fitness should be a Core Desire for everyone.
Everyone with a Core Desire for financial fitness can achieve it. Financial fitness means being content with your financial life, not wanting for anything, and being free of pressing financial problems. If financial problems are inflicting distress or harm on you or your family, you are not financially fit.
Henry Ford once asked one of his young automotive engineers, "What is your life ambition?" The young man said, "I want to become very rich." A couple of days later, Ford approached the engineer and instructed him to put on a pair of glasses, which instead of having glass lenses had silver dollars in the frame. Then he asked the engineer, 'What do you see?"
"Nothing," the guy replied. Having made his point, the auto giant said, "Then maybe you should rethink that ambition of yours." The man had money right in front of his eyes, but he couldn't see it.

Build The Business - Follow The System by Jack Zufelt
Last week we looked at how to get a new rep or distributor started right away. First of all, find out their core desire.
In today's newsletter I want to cover the second step that you need to take... help them have success right away. Success does not necessarily mean making money. When I say right away, I'm talking about within 24 hours or 36 hours, maximum two days.
Let me give you an example. A lot people will sign up a person today, then they say, "call me as soon as you get your product and your materials from the company." How long does that take? Three days? More than likely five or six or eight or nine days, depending on whether it's over a weekend or whatever.
Well, I do not want a representative that's brand new not taking action for three or four or five or six or worse, eight or nine days. I want them to have successes right away. You see, you don't need product to recruit people. You don't even need to show it to them. You need to be able to tell them about it. If you have any that you can show them from your inventory because you're using it, okay. But what if it's over the phone? You can't do that.
What I want you to do is say to them...
SCRIPT FOLLOWS "Okay, while we're waiting for your product to come from the company, while we're waiting for your information to come from the company, whatever is coming from the company, here's what I want you to do."
"What I want you to do by this time tomorrow is make a list of five to ten people that you feel would be generals or would be business builders. Not just people that are health challenged or could use the product, but somebody who could be a business builder if they wanted to be."
"The way you observe that is people who are confident and outgoing, not shy and backwards. But somebody who has already evidenced to you that they have a personality, they're talkers and they could do this if they wanted to. Make a list of five to ten."
INSIGHT - I make it a small number. I've heard people say, "Make a list of 200." How many people have you given that responsibility to and the next day they haven't even started on it? Has that happened to you? A lot. It's too big. That's like trying to eat an elephant in one bite.
SCRIPT CONTINUES "Let's break it down to success. I want you to go make a list of five to ten people that you can put me in touch with or if you have a system where you have a cassette or a video or a DVD to hand out, that you can get in their hands. So make a list of five or ten people, period. That's all I want you to do. This is where the money is. You've got your list. I'll call you or you call me tomorrow and we're going to talk about that list. END SCRIPT
INSIGHT Remember, the person is brand new. She doesn't know anything about the company hardly at all, except maybe a little bit she heard for the first time from me. She doesn't know anything about the business except whatever she's seen me do. That person is going to call me tomorrow and learn what?
We're going to go over that list name by name. She's going to tell me a little bit about the first name on the list, Mary Smith. What about Mary Smith? What does she do? Oh, she's a nurse. Oh, okay, here's what you could say to her to help this nurse be interested in making money in this industry. You give her some ideas. I would give you some ideas. I'll use that as a real live example. We know for a fact that nurses are underpaid and overworked. And in fact, they're very upset right now with their industry. Many of them are leaving it. It's almost always because they're not getting paid enough for what they do. It's a given understanding that nurses don't make a lot of money. In fact, most people don't make enough money.
I would tell her, "How would you like to take your knowledge of the human body and caring for other people as nurses do, like nobody else does, and make three or four times what you're making as a nurse, in the next 12 months?" Now your new person has some information to say to her nurse friend. Then we do that times the next name, plus the next name and the next name, until we've gone through five or six names.
After five or six calls your new person will say, "You know, it's pretty much the same pitch once you got past the personal information about how you know them and what they do." I know an engineer, I know a CPA, I know whatever. You gear the invitation to that individual's background. He's a truck driver. Well, how would you like to make money while you're driving your truck? Instead of waiting for the delivery of your products, how would you like to make money as a truck driver with somebody else out there doing work that you've got involved and that person makes you $2,000 or $3,000 a month in addition to what you're making as a truck driver?
I can promise you the truck driver will say to you something like this, "How do you do that? Of course I'd be interested in that!" Then you hand them the cassette or the DVD or you arrange a three-way call with your up-line, or if you're strong enough, you do it. However, there's a problem with you doing it, because then they get intimidated by a powerful person who seems to be able to have all the answers.
I learned that the hard way. I know all the answers. I don't mean that to boast, but I'm pretty strong. And I found my people saying, "Jack, the reason you're successful is because of who you are. I could never be like you." That's why I started diverting to and relying on a system instead of a personality. People could be dependent on a system, not a personality.
Anybody can buy a McDonalds if they have the money and the system will make them a ton of money. McDonalds will insist that they use that system, because that's what makes them money. They don't care what your personality is. They don't care about anything except this: do you have the money to buy the franchise and will you be obedient?
That's the same mindset with this industry. I don't care what your background is. I don't care what your personality is. I care about this: will you be obedient to the system that I'm going to introduce you to? If you will, you'll make money.
